Passion for two-wheelers

Color plays an important role in motorcycle coatings. The motorcyclists in Asia are especially bold when it comes to choosing colors. Violet and lime-green scooters abound here.

The right color significantly contributes to the success of a motorcycle series. BASF has outstanding competence in this area. Our expert designer team is developing innovative colors and already knows today what trends will take off tomorrow. We respond to our customers’ wishes and develop colors with individual nuances to meet their expectations.

We are the only coatings supplier to develop colors specifically for the motorcycle sector and present them in customer-specific color shows.

Environmental protection

Environmental protection is a top priority at BASF. We were the first paint company to apply waterborne technology to two-wheelers. This, for example, goes for our StarBloc primer, which achieves a unique glossy effect.

Innovative products and technological expertise

We inspire our customers’ confidence with technological competence and innovative products. For example, our waterborne paint system allows for electrostatic application to plastic parts; or our twin-cure system clearcoat - Beamcoat™ – which combines UV and thermal curing, helps our customers profit from a quick and environmentally friendly curing solution.

Focus on Asia

The motorcycle coatings business has its focus in Asia.

Here, urbanization and economic growth are leading to increasing mobility. BASF recognized this development early on and is the market leader for motorcycle paints in Japan and Thailand . The company is among the top 3 leading suppliers in India and growing with strong focus on China, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Roughly two-thirds of the motorcycles produced in Japan are coated with BASF products. We work together with all Japanese motorcycle manufacturers.

In the future, business activities in the region are to be further expanded.

BASF is also a reliable partner for motorcycle coatings in key European markets like Italy, Spain and Germany.
